Snake potential was what Duncan McKenna was looking for when he chose a summer camp, and Camp Caneechee had it. The camp was located in a virgin forest in Pennsylvania; a spring-fed river ran through it; and at least thirteen different kinds of snakes were native to the area.

Of course, Duncan wanted to swim, canoe, play basketball and tennis at camp, but his secret project for the sum- mer was to collect some snakes as a surprise for his father, who was the director of a nature museum.

Duncan expected most of the boys to be afraid of the snakes he would catch; it was that way at home. But he wasn't prepared for such ignorance and fear among the counselors. The camp director was hardly sane on the subject. On top of it all, Duncan was in a cabin with a bully whose chief joy was tormenting new boys. Duncan was his main target.

From an amusing beginning, tension builds to a tumultuous end. In this, her second book about Duncan McKenna, Helen Copeland has again deftly brought us into the vigorous world of boys.
